This week kicked off with Nonprofit Awareness Day and we were honored to celebrate young nonprofit professionals as part of this statewide recognition day highlighting the impact of nonprofit organizations. All of us at YNPN Boston applaud the thousands of individuals of all ages in Greater Boston working in the nonprofit community, making both visible and quiet contributions to programming, external presence, internal operations, and organizational sustainability.
On that note, I want to extend deep gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated, passionate members of our Board of Directors — both current and past — who spent many volunteer hours over the last several years laying the groundwork for YNPN Boston to file for 501(c)(3) status.
And as the Board Chair of YNPN Boston, it gives me great joy to announce that [cue the spotlights!] we have received our official letter of determination from the IRS! We’re thrilled about taking this important step in the growth of our organization and are ready to use this to deepen our impact by empowering and connecting tomorrow’s nonprofit leaders.
Working in a mission-driven organization is both challenging and extremely rewarding. Young nonprofit professionals know it is often what happens behind the scenes that makes fulfilling our missions possible — because this is often where we have impact within our organizations.
We want you to know that we’re here for you! In 2014, we brought you events and opportunities including Channeling Wisdom, Nerding Out to Get Ahead, and the Young Nonprofit Professionals Survey. We’ve talked with you about topics like work-life balance, networking tips, finding a mentor, and informational interviews.
What you may not know is that over the past several months, we’ve grown our Leadership Team to over 50 volunteers, clarified our goals, and set a plan in motion to bring more professional development events and resources to you.
Achieving our 501(c)(3) status is a launching point to strengthen our organization and to take a lead role in helping young nonprofit professionals to fully recognize their potential. We’re excited to continue working hard to help create a nonprofit community in which diverse, highly engaged individuals help to realize the sector’s full potential for impact. That’s our vision.
