On this day of recognition, YNPN Boston and the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN) co-hosted A Toast to Nonprofit Excellence, a high-energy gathering of young nonprofit professionals. Attendees celebrated the strength and impact of the nonprofit sector and in particular, toasted the finalists of MNN’s Nonprofit Excellence Award.

Echoing the theme of MNN’s #nonprofitsmakesense social media campaign that led up to Nonprofit Awareness Day, YNPN Boston Board Chair Annie Latham reflected on why young professionals in nonprofits “make sense”:

  • According to The Boston Globe, Boston has the highest number of young adults in any city in America, with over 1⁄3 of the city’s population between the ages of 20-34.
  • There are over 34,000 nonprofits in the state of Massachusetts that generate over $227 billion in revenue annually.
  • Put these two facts together, and it is clear that young professionals are in the position of driving and shaping the future of the nonprofit sector.

Annie also shared the exciting news that YNPN Boston has officially obtained 501(c)(3) status! This allows the organization to move forward in its mission to empower and connect tomorrow’s nonprofit leaders.

A Toast to Nonprofit Excellence was an opportunity to celebrate the work of young professionals and provide inspiration for the vibrant future of the nonprofit sector. Here’s a toast to all of you working hard every day within the incredible nonprofit community in Massachusetts!
